Retreat to the Harp Oxfordshire 2018

Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July
Charney Manor, near Wantage, Oxon

Escape to the beautiful countryside of Oxfordshire for a weekend of total harp immersion with friendly tutors, delicious meals, inspiring concerts and peaceful surroundings. Now in it's 6th year, the adult harp retreat is open to pedal and non pedal harpists of all abilities and takes place at Charney Manor, a 13th century conference and retreat centre in the village of Charney Basset near Wantage.

Hannah Phillips and Keziah Thomas lead classes and workshops which concentrate on ensemble playing, improvisation and performance. As well as working in groups divided by ability, there is also a public concert, a musical party and plenty of time for private practise...or socialising!

An Chúirt Chruitireachta / Annual International Harp Festival

Sunday 1st to Friday 6th July 2018
An Grianán, Termonfechin, Co. Louth, Ireland

Seize this opportunity to become immersed in all aspects of traditional music for Irish harp. Develop skills and repertoire from ancient harpers’ tunes to songs and slow airs to jigs and reels.

Clive Morley Harps will be attending on 1st and July with an exhibition of harps. A harp technician will be available for servicing and repairs.

Monday 2nd July – 1pm – 5:30pm

The festival accepts harpers of all ages, standards and styles from absolute beginners to advanced players. Participants are graded and assigned to mentors who can offer them the best opportunity for improvement.

Tutoring sessions are conducted on a modular basis so that participants can benefit from a collaborative multidisciplinary teaching approach. A full range of harping techniques are covered and include:
Irish harping techniques
Traditional ornamentation
Session and group playing
Wire strung harp styles
Music of the 16th and 17th century Harpers
Singing in Irish and English

Hands on the Harp - July

Hands on the Harp sessions are basic workshops for beginners, as well as those who just want to come along to see what the harp is all about. You can learn elementary technique and have all your burning questions answered in a gentle and informal environment.

Catrin Finch Academy Harp School and Fun Day

Summer School

Now in it's eighth year, the Summer School has been growing year on year. Held each year in Catrin's home village of Gwaelod-yr-Garth in South Wales, students from around the world get to experience the unique opportunity to study and play with both Catrin and Catrin’s former teacher, Elinor Bennett.  Over a course of 4 days, the Summer School includes masterclasses and workshops, private tuition with both Catrin and Elinor, a Harp Fun Day with young harpists, and a performance at a local public concert.  

Minimum standard: UK Grade 7 and above
Minimum age: 16 years old

Fun Day

The Catrin Finch Academy Harp Fun Day gives harpists of all ages and standards, the unique opportunity to study and play with Catrin, Catrin’s former teacher, Elinor Bennett and advanced students from the Catrin Finch Academy Summer School.  The Harp Fun Day includes a full day of workshops and tuition (split into two main groups – Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6), ending with a group performance at a local public concert.
